Thiruvaiyaaru - 8th Jan 2007

The 160th Thyagaraja Aradhana was celebrated in a grand fashion today here at Kuwait. It was a wonderful experience. The programme started at 6.30 pm and there were recitals of few slokas for about 15 minutes and then an invocation song by a small girl. Wow she sang so well. Its a gift of God to have got such a wonderful voice like hers - mesmerising!

There was also a half an hour presentation about the life history of Sri.Thyagaraja. It is said that Sri.Thyagaraja has composed 24,000 kritis to match with the count of number of slokas in Sri.Valmiki Ramayana. Unfortunately only 700 out of them are being sung today and that too thanks to his two disciple's Sri.Krishna Bhagavatar and Sri.Sundara Bhagavathar who have taken efforts to script down the lyrics of atleast those 700 Kritis.

Then the Pancha Ratna Kritis were sung and concluded with Sita Kalyanam Nalangu. To my surprise I was able to manage to sing all the kritis without even referring to the book and my all time favourite Entharo Mahanubhavulu (Sree Ragam) came out wonderfully well. It was a very blissful moment of the evening. I also relished the mysore-paa that was distributed as prasadam :D
