Faces

Sorry friends, this one could be a bit offending and more colloquial.

Scene 1:

Hinduja was seriously studying for her 10th standard board exams. Suddenly she heard someone falling down "damaal" – who was that? It was a breaking shock for her. The sound was her mother falling down from the ceiling fan. Hindus mother Sita, had committed suicide due to unbearable headache and migraine.
Next morning – Hindu and her cousins were sitting in the car park of their apartment. Sita’s cousin Leela entered – on the way from the gate till the car park:

Leela : Hey vasanthy ne nethiki raatri Kaadal pagadai paathiyodi? Ena nadandhadu? Adula anda premiya varuvale ava ena sonna?? Ore siripu di anda drama….

Vasanthy: Ayo ada endi kekare, na serial a potutu sapda okanda ore phone, edutha inda sita poitanu kelvi paten. Karmam, idhelam raatri ya soluva, saavu keta thalaiku dhertamadanumenu heater potena, edho short circuit agi current poiduthudi…

Scene 2:

Ambi passed away due to sudden heart attack. After the funeral was over, everyone took bath and few were crying and others consoling Ambi’s family members. Everyone sat down for lunch. Ambis own thambi Mr. Baradhan was also one among them. Baradhan was blind and hence was staying with Ambis family. Ambi was very much attached to Baradhan and took special care for him. Ambi had instructed his son and daughter too to take care of Baradhan properly. So Ambis son Amanji sat next to Baradhan and was helping him to have his lunch.

Baradhan: Dei amanji, ena sapadu iniki? – Savu aniki sapadu sumaradhan irukanumnu soliraka .
Amanji: Theriyala periappa.. Idly sadhikara pola iruku. (With all tears in his eyes) (Amanji couldn’t bear the loss of his father, and was now afraid of the mountain like responsibilities he had to shoulder)
Baradhan: (Now touching the hot hot idlies on his plate) – Iduku thotuka enna?? Inda Idly thalela konjam Nei kutha soluda amanji, nei illama sapadave mudiyaradhu illa enaku.. menna adaikaradhu … Ambi ku kuda nei kuthi idly sata dhan romba ishtam…

Scene 3:

Parimala was admitted in hospital. She was in her eighties and was a mother of 5 sons and two daughters. Parimala was in ICU:

Doctor: The patient is very serious and there is only 40% chance of her recovery. That too can be said only after keeping her under observation for 48 hours and she might need the assistance of a ventilator

Son 1: Hmm okay doctor, I shall consult my other brothers and get back to you soon.

Son 1, Son 2 and Son 3:

Son 2: She is already eighty, even if she comes back, who can keep her? Already my wife is not feeling well. She has head ache and back pain..

Son 3: Even my wife has to go to work. My son has to go to college early in the morning. Also there is water problem in our house. It will be difficult to accommodate our mother in my house.

Son 1: If the ventilator is kept it will cost around 20,000/- bucks per day. Why unnecessarily spend so much? Already the entire treatment has cost more than Rs.50,000/-

Son 2: And yes I have the mediclaim insurance only up to Rs. 1 lakh. Now the funeral expenses will also get added. So why spending so much? Even if she comes back, for how many more years is she going to stay?

Son 1: Have you informed Son 4?? What did he tell? We need to consult him too before taking decision. I don’t think Son 5’s views are necessary. Anyhow he is a drunkard and he is not able to take care of himself, then how can we expect him to contribute something for our mothers’ expenses??

Son 3: Oh yeah I have informed Son 4 and he said, whatever decision you take should be agreeable. Even his wife is not well and his business is going on dull, so he wont be able to support our mother now. He said he will come by train and it might take two days. He asked us to go ahead with the funeral rites without delaying.

Son 1: Oh okay then I shall tell doctor the same thing.

Son 1 to doctor:

Son 1: Doctor, our mother had suffered enough. Now we don’t want her to undergo any further pain. Lets not torture her by piercing her body with injections and ventilator. Let her last moments be in peace. So please try to save her without ventilator and rest is left to God.

Doctor: Oh okay Mr. Son 1. I can understand how much you care for your mother. It’s all in the Gods hand. Let me try my level best save her life. Take care.

Next morning:
Doctor: Sorry Mr. Son 1, you mother is no more. She is unlucky to have died so soon leaving such a caring children like you and your brothers. May her soul rest in peace!!

Scene 4:

Raj’s sister, on complaining of severe stomachache, was taken to a nearby nursing home where she was diagnosed for some minor liver problem. The doctor suggested to Raj to take his sister to any hospital and take a scan. Raj was the breadwinner for his family and his mother was a little mentally retarded person. Raj and his family stayed in his maternal uncles house.

Raj: Uncle, the doctor asked to take Chandra to a big hospital and take a scan.

Uncle: What big deal.. Why are you creating a big scene for a simple stomachache? It is natural for all gals to get stomachache.

Raj: But uncle why don’t we take a scan please? She is suffering from severe pain.
(By this time Chandra couldn’t bear the pain and she started bleeding from nose and ears) Uncle please we need to do something.

Uncle: Okay do what ever you want. I think you are unnecessarily wasting money. Okay if you want take her to Government hospital. I can’t spend much money on your sister.

Raj: Okay uncle.

At GH: - Chandra was now damn serious and started bleeding severely from nose, ears and mouth.

Ward boy: Sir please wait, Today our Chief Minister is going to Inaugurate a new block. So all the doctors have gone there. Please wait for an hour. This is a gone case. There is no chance of saving her life. Its better you take the dead body back home.

Raj: Please sir can you do something to save my sister? Can I take her to a better hospital?

By this time, Raj’s friends and colleagues had heard of the news and rushed to hospital. On seeing the plight of Chandra, they took her to a reputed private hospital where they had admitted her after a recommendation from the chief doctor, because it was a peculiar case and there was less than 1% chance of survival. Chandra’s Liver had burst and the body waste had mixed with the blood and got circulated to entire body. Unfortunately even with all the hard efforts of the doctors Chandra’s life could not be saved.

At Raj’s house:

Uncle: (Crying over Chandras body) ayoooooooooo kozhandhe.. munadiye vayatha valinu solirka kudadha maa? Ithana naal enkitendu marachutiyee.. Epo paar mama mama nu kupudiviyeeee inime ena apadi kupda yaaru irukaaa… chandraaaaaaaaa poitiyemaaaa inda china vayasula unaku endi bagavan ipadi oru vidhi ezhudinan. Adutha varusham college sendhu nana padichu degree vanga porennu sonniye di kozhandheeeeeeeee…..

Scene 5:

Divya was a very moody girl and would not mingle with many people. Divya’s father had eloped with another female when Divya was born and Divya lived with her mother Alamu all alone. Alamu ‘s relatives were not that very close to her and never wanted Alamu to visit them regularly.
On one fine Sunday morning Alamu complained of stomach pain and was vomiting blood if she ate anything. Divya got scared and admitted Alamu in a reputed hospital. Alamus brother was there but was already complaining of high Blood pressure.
All of a sudden the doctor declared Alamu dead.
Now Divya was on streets and could do nothing. Alamu was taken to her brother’s house.

Alamus Sister: Ayo ponam vandhudhuthu.
Divya: Chithi en apdi solrenga, ava enoda amma.
Divyas uncle’s wife: Summa iru di. Gidu gidnu ponatha nagathungo.
Divyas uncle: Erikanumaa illati electrical cremation panidalamaa?
Other relatives: Ponam dhane – ericha poraum. Eduku electrical cremation pani avalo sevalu pananum??

Divya stood there helpless with all tears in her eyes.
