Struggling hard to figure out the same. Viz what could be done and what are we doing? Its a vicious circle and I know I havent done anything yet and that I'm not doing anything yet. Would luv to get started somewhere - though dont know how/what/where.
We could stop spitting in the road, stop polluting the environment.. stop encouraging begging.. stop damaging/misusing the public property..start save natural resources (stop wasting water, electricity), dispose the litter in the dustbin..
These are all small things.. but which can be done in our day to day life. It may at first seem petty.. but very difficult to practise and also in long run would do a magnificent change.
@ Heidi Kris - Well you are absolutely correct. Whatever you have mentioned is probably what we all end up doing ( or not doing) without even attempting to do/not do it. I mean while I was in India I never used to encourage begging, damage public property, spit in the open dispose waste here n there. I believe most of the educated crowd -the so called young generation does that eventually.
Come to think of it these are something you "Avoid" doing to save resources and likes. But if I sit back and think of my contributions (or other people of my age for that matter) ... blank.... I am sure there are many things which we as a citizen can do. I dont know, it may sound insane, but still struggling to find what that is.
Heidi is right,Rajesh..these things and deeds seem simple at the first sight but they do go a long way in influencing others.. There are other things u can actively do..like taking up the education of one small kid in ur locality or joining up with organisations that provide such services and are in constant need of volunteers.. another task we can take upon ourselves is to make aware and imbibe and flame this desire to do something effective and productive for our country ..impart to others along the way and actually do good than just thinking of doing it..pass it on,:)
and always remember that litlle drops of water make an ocena and whatever u may do,however little it may seem is a magnificient step towards builing a better India..
@ meghjanmi - I totally agree to what you have to say and what Heidi has mentioned. Every Indian knows what he/she needs to do. The point I mentioned was that what have we "done"? As for me, almost near to nothing, although I know what should be done and what needs to be done. The percentage of Indians who actually DO such deeds is very very less - and my point.
MJ very true. We can take up the costs of a childs education and make the kid a knowledgable person. Helping a person to start earning his living is much better than feeding him daily. He will also have the satisfaction of standing on his own legs.
And while saying this.. we can see how many of us have actually taken advantage of child labour - eg. Engaging a small girl as a maid for house hold work (so we can pay her less and get more work.), if they are selling flowers (sply in Marina beach / near the temple) we bargain with them the most and they also have to oblige.
As a part of younger generations, we must stop encouraging child labour. Stating this i remember an incident that happend an year back in annangr. There was a small girl who came to me begging. I said i wont encourage her and she started falling on my feet. I felt so bad and then took her to a near by tea shop and asked her to buy whatever she wanted. She said she didnt want food and wanted only money instead. I got angry and asked her what will she do with the money? eat the paper?? She then started to move away from me. I caught her and then took her to the police nearby and told him that what she was doing is wrong and being a kid of less than 8 yrs she shud be going to the school at this time. The police scolded her and then asked how much money u have in hand? She started crying and said some 25 rupees, which she had to give her dad in the evening for him to buy his liquor. Suddenly he snatched that money from her hand and then said - Inga ninena i will take u to the govt. school, run away!!! I was shocked and cudnt do anything else. Jus gave the police a bad stare and then walked away.
aiyo..avalam..kekkave kashtamaga irukiradu..such government officlas shud be heavily fined and punished..wonder how u felt..and think of that girl, who would have surely had a beating from her drunkard father..if u can, write about it to a magazine or paper,heidi..
Ezhudalaam MJ, but oru police official pathi ezhudarache proof kepangale.. I shud have done something to gather the proof apove.. ipo ezhudina ena panuvanga?
